Hong Kong Trip

Decided to utilize our prize from the Penang Challenge this August, hoping to catch the end of the summer sale. However I think I was a tad too late. Nonetheless, it was a good break from work. Also, thanks to Novotel Hotel for sponsoring our accommodation. Brilliant location and nice room!! :) :) :)

Arrived in Hong Kong closed to noon as we took the first morning flight of the day. It is really easy to navigate in HK as it is just like another Singapore. Just probably more crowded.

Der on the streets of HK after we alight at the bus stop near our hotel.

Our beautiful and comfortable room.
Even the computers at the internet corner are beautiful! Mac!! How cool
After checking in our stuff, we headed off to look for some authentic looking HK cafe. Not those fanciful ones we have in Singapore. We randomly walked into one and I must say the food is goood! It cost abt SGD6 for one meal which includes tea, a bowl of nice boiled chinese soup (not those kind of clear soup you find in our hawker center when ordering noodles) and our main course.
We ordered fried beef noodles and char siew rice. The portion is rather big. Both myself and der could not finish up everything.

Moved on to do some shopping at Lai Chi Kok. It is actually a wholesale center and it is packed mostly with people stocking up clothes for sale. Thus items are considered relatively cheaper than those that are found in mall. The fashion there now is Korean fashion. Not really my style of dressing but I managed to get a lot of accessories.
To end off the night, we went to the Peak. I was craving for food at Bubble Gump :) I know it's not a "HK" food but we don't have it in Singapore!

Walking up the slope to the tram station.
The view from the peak. The weather is very cooling up there.
To make up for der's ugly star jump at Penang...
Dinner @ Bubble Gump
I love the giant onion rings! It has real onions inside.
Der acting sexy
Day 2: Started off with the complimentary buffet breakfast at the hotel. It's a nice and comfy restaurant with a good variety of selection. I thought the french pastries were pretty good.

After breakfast was a short trip to Lantau island. As mentioned, it is definitely a place worth visiting. Somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
We headed back to the city for lunch/dinner and chanced upon this famous stall near Lang Kwai Feng (The popular clubbing area). The queue outside was what caught my attention (typical Singaporean style haha). Inside the restaurant was filled with newspaper articles too.
I ordered HK's must-eat, pork bun and der having his fav maggi noodles with egg and luncheon meat.

Another must try is the toast. It is different from the ones in singapore as they do not come with honey. Instead, there was peanut butter spread.
Me looking so greedy.
Just around the corner is the Tai Cheung Bakery, famous for their egg tart. They were all freshly baked, and piping hot when we had them. We could see the flow of tourist visiting the place just for the eggs tarts when we were there. The other food stuff there were not fantastic though. I thought the brand Mei Xin (can be found in every train station) was much better and slightly cheaper too. So for people intending to buy some snacks back, don't bother getting from Tai Cheung.
Our night program was to view the Avenue of Starts. However it was a disappointment. The sky was so brightly lit, we couldn't see the different colour lights clearly.
And according to der, he found the all guys' dream girl hand prints - Cecilia Cheung
Day 3 was pretty much relaxing and shopping around before heading off to the airport.
Last pic on our hotel sofa before we check out.
Had dessert at Australia Diary Company found near our hotel. The place was actually recommended for their scramble eggs. But I had the steam egg dessert. It was fantastic! Very soft, smooth and silky. It literally melted it in my mouth. Once again, the toast that der ordered was different. It had condensed milk on it. As the placed was so packed, we were given a seat facing the wall! It felt odd but we weren't the only one. Guess it was just a different experience hah.
Out last stop before heading to the airport was to Cause way Bay. We had another myst try dish, roast goose. Just a warning, it is really oily. But I love the skin as they're really crispy.
I also had my fav fish pancake with banana and chocolate
This wraps up our HK trip for 3 days. Short for people who has never to HK before though.
Next up, Japan in October!! Will be going there with just another colleague of mine. I'm looking forward to it. :) But all the planning...... hahah

The Orange Timber

Today was a pretty chill day, walking around, eating and reading my book! It has been a long time since I walked along Blk 85 market. I think the last time was during my sec sch days, on my way back to my grandma house after sch. Since I had breakfast there with my grandma today, I showed der the old sch cake shop where Cham and I bought a huge cream cake (not those fanciful ones we get these days) and finished it all by ourselves under the void deck! Der and I couldn't resist the temptation to buy a slice each :) Strawberry vs blueberry...Only $1.10 each. Those miniture ones that are sold at toast box cost $1.20 and they are only 1/3 the size of this! What a rip off for something nostalgia... Later in the evening, we decided to chill at The Orange Timber @ Tiong Bahru The Orange Timber is a cafe cum art gallery. The plates are bowl used were also meant to be something nostalgia once again... hah However, I use those cutlery at home too. There are like 3 sections to this small cafe...
