Mason Leow Yu Ming arrived on 21 April 2019 at 5.29am. It was a short and smooth delivery that left me feeling that the whole thing was unreal. I would not say the pain is lesser than my previous experience with Charlotte. But the short process made everything more bearable.
I got up at 3am to give Charlotte her cough medicine as she was coughing quite badly. At 3.30am, I felt a little cramp and thought it was because my bladder was full. On the way to the toilet, a trickle of pee came out and I thought to myself, I should have gone to the toilet earlier! After returning to bed, I felt another cramp and decided to take my phone to time the cramps. There was a slight "leak" but I had no idea that it was my water bag. The cramps were about 10mins apart. At this moment, I was looking at insta and chatting with my friend Alene. She said this might be it! So I went back to bed and another cramp came. When I stood up this time, an uncontrollable flow of water came down my legs. Googled said the water from the water bag should be clear. It could be yellowish because of baby's poop as well. Thus I was unsure as my water was not clear and I have no idea what it is supposed to be when the water bag broke. This time round, the cramps was slightly more painful and definitely within 5 mins. The cramps were bearable, unlike my previous pregnancy.
I woke Derrick up and we got ready to leave for the hospital. As it was about 4.45am, there was no traffic. We got to the hospital by 5am. Now, the pain started to kick in. After giving my name, the nurse asked me a couple of qn and brought me to the room. She said she got to check first. Surprisingly, I was already 8cm dilated. I was confused when I heard 8cm. In my mind, I was just thinking "we can deliver when we are 10cm right? Or did I get it wrong? how can I be 8cm already?" Previously, we waited an entire night to be dilated. It is barely an hr, how could I be already 8cm?
All the nurse were still plugging in the wires and I asked if my epidural is here. I was thinking that one of them should be preparing my epidural. I was shocked when the nurse said "I'm sorry, just push, it's too late" The moment the doc came in, she was asking me to push at the peak of my contraction. The first push was my first super painful contraction. In 20mins, Mason came out. The whole process that started at home only lasted 2 hrs, from 3.30am-5.30am.
I am very thankful and grateful to Dr Harvard and the professional and amazing medical team that pulled me through it. I still can't believe I delivered a baby so quickly.
Charlotte and my mum came by in the afternoon. She said she loves didi very much.
We had only 1 visitor this time haha unlike in Singapore. The stream of visitors were never ending. This could also be the reason why I felt super rested. I am definitely not as tired. Not sure if it's the short delivery process or because I got more rest.
I am 2 weeks into my confinement now. Can't wait to be out and about again!
