Road Trip 1 - Palm Springs

Road trips! Ain't US all about road trips? We have been going to a couple of road trips and there will be more upcoming ones. I'm starting to like road trips but I'm not sure about Der because he's the one driving haha. Well I like it as we can bring all we want and not worry too much about weight limits. It is also mainly because Der drives a relatively large car that it has ample space for us to bring whatever we want. Due to the spacious car we have, Charlotte gets away with lying in the back seat and not being strapped to her car seat throughout the entire journey. Not exactly the safest but at least she is more well behaved like this and this keeps us parents sane.

We did an impromptu trip to Palm Springs over a long weekend. It was about a 2.5 hours drive from LA. We stayed in a really nice hotel, the Renaissance Indian Wells Resort & Spa. We had a nice big room and the hotel comes with a huge pool. Charlotte loved the place so much, she kept asking us when we are going back there again.

On the journey there, we stopped by the McDonald museum. It was so nostalgic.
Upon arriving at our hotel, we hit the pool immediately before the sun went down. We managed an hour before it got cold and dark.
We had a good pizza meal thereafter.
The next day was spent at the zoo. I was very impressed. I was expecting a regular zoo with enclosures for the animals but it was more like a safari with vast spaces for the animals to roam around.
We rode a camel. It was my second time after Egypt.
The impressive giraffe habitat. It looks like they are living in the wild.
Got a pretty good shot of a jaguar here.
There was a petting zoo too.
We did not managed to cover the entire zoo but we think we saw enough. I would definitely recommend this zoo to everyone. Definitely worth going back again.

After visiting the zoo, we went back to our hotel pool to try and catch the last of the sun. Charlotte never has enough time whenever she's by the pool or beach. With the combination of both sand and the pool, it was double joy for Charlotte.
A glimpse of our hotel room.
The view from our balcony. It overlooks the golf course.
On the way back, we made a pit stop at Cabazon Dinosaurs. It is a small area filled with dinosaurs and you get to climb up a T-Rex. It is fun to stop by but I thought the entry fee of $13 for adults and $11 for kids was really expensive. The dinosaurs were not interactive or making any noises. They are basically just big figurines there. I think the small area in the Singapore zoo probably beats it hah.

The Orange Timber

Today was a pretty chill day, walking around, eating and reading my book! It has been a long time since I walked along Blk 85 market. I think the last time was during my sec sch days, on my way back to my grandma house after sch. Since I had breakfast there with my grandma today, I showed der the old sch cake shop where Cham and I bought a huge cream cake (not those fanciful ones we get these days) and finished it all by ourselves under the void deck! Der and I couldn't resist the temptation to buy a slice each :) Strawberry vs blueberry...Only $1.10 each. Those miniture ones that are sold at toast box cost $1.20 and they are only 1/3 the size of this! What a rip off for something nostalgia... Later in the evening, we decided to chill at The Orange Timber @ Tiong Bahru The Orange Timber is a cafe cum art gallery. The plates are bowl used were also meant to be something nostalgia once again... hah However, I use those cutlery at home too. There are like 3 sections to this small cafe...

A very big Thank You to Jetstar and JetSaver Light! We had an AWESOME trip. Not only was it a cultural and stomach full filling trip filled with nothing but one of the very best food :), we also experienced the affable nature of the people in Penang and most importantly, we made many friends to keep :) Below was the itinerary that got us selected. And we're proud to say that we completed everything mentioned and accomplished even more. Wednesday, 1st July  marks JetSaver Light inaugural flight to Penang and also our, team 4's (GO!
