Sergiev Posad

An advantage of being in Russia.. This place is huge! There is always somewhere I can visit during the weekend and I am loving it :) This weekend, we made an impromptu day trip to Sergiev Posad. It is a 1.5-2.5 hrs drive from Moscow City, depending on the traffic conditions.

The main attraction in Sergiev Posad is the Troitse-Sergiev Monastery, the spiritual home of the Russian Orthodox Church. This monastery is considered one of the most beautiful one in Russia. Within the compound of the monastery, there are various churches. Admission is free for Russians but as a foreigner (or more like Asian), there is a charge of 290 rubles. I am pretty sure Americans or Europeans will be mistaken as a Russian and be able to walk in for free.

The gates of Troitse-Sergiev Monastery
Upon entering the gates of the monastery, we were greeted by a beautiful wall mural
There are various churches within the compound itself. There were also mass going on in each church. Unlike the churches in Singapore, there are no seats in these churches. Everyone was standing and the place was very packed. It was pretty intense inside.

We saw a fountain with people filling up bottles, drinking, splashing water on their faces with the water that flows out. I guess it should be holy water. We drank the water too and to my surprise, there is no smell nor taste to the water. It was just cold, refreshing water and I actually thought it tasted so much better than the mineral water we drink.
Since we came to Russia, this is the first time we been inside a monastery. I think this place is beautiful. I love the backdrop of this pic.

We also had dinner at Sergiev Posad before heading back. Unlike Moscow, this is a small town with lesser choice of food. All thanks to Google, I managed to find a really good restaurant - Russky Dvorik (РУССКИЙ ДВОРИК). We even saw a pic of George Yeo who paid a visit to the restaurant last time. The interior of the restaurant looks like a royal venue and the servers were all dressed in traditional costumes.

All the food we ordered. Everything was a hit to me. I love them all. Also, the prices here are cheaper as compared to eating in a restaurant in Moscow City.

The Orange Timber

Today was a pretty chill day, walking around, eating and reading my book! It has been a long time since I walked along Blk 85 market. I think the last time was during my sec sch days, on my way back to my grandma house after sch. Since I had breakfast there with my grandma today, I showed der the old sch cake shop where Cham and I bought a huge cream cake (not those fanciful ones we get these days) and finished it all by ourselves under the void deck! Der and I couldn't resist the temptation to buy a slice each :) Strawberry vs blueberry...Only $1.10 each. Those miniture ones that are sold at toast box cost $1.20 and they are only 1/3 the size of this! What a rip off for something nostalgia... Later in the evening, we decided to chill at The Orange Timber @ Tiong Bahru The Orange Timber is a cafe cum art gallery. The plates are bowl used were also meant to be something nostalgia once again... hah However, I use those cutlery at home too. There are like 3 sections to this small cafe...
