Day Trip to Vladimir (Владимир)

We made use of the public holiday (Russia's National Day) this week to go on a day trip to Vladimir, one of the medieval capitals of Russia, located to the east of Moscow. We headed to the bus station early in the morning at 7.30am to catch a bus. It was rather daunting at first due to the massive crowd and language barrier. This queue took us about 45mins to get to the front!
Fortunately we managed to get the tickets and hopped on to the right bus. The journey took us 4hrs.
At Vladimir, all the main attractions in the town are congregated along one main street. Upon spotting the Golden Gates, we immediately hopped off the bus. This gates marked the start of the route. These gates were used as a fortress against the invasion of Russia in the 13th century.
The area is also pretty tourist friendly as they had the plan of the walking route located within sight of tourists everywhere around the town.
Welcome to Vladimir :)
The other main attractions are:
1. The Dormition Cathedral that is under the World Heritage Site entitled White Monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal.
2. Cathedral of Dmitry. Another Cathedral that belongs to the World Heritage of UNESCO.
It was nice strolling down the streets of Vladimir. Even the air was much fresher than Moscow. This spontaneous outing turned out pretty well and we enjoyed ourselves. Definitely looking forward to more trips to the country side. Also, if you're looking to visit sites under the UNESCO World Heritage, this is the place to visit. Almost every site is under the list hah.
Till then, it will be back to the hustle and bustle of Moscow city on the local train.

The Orange Timber

Today was a pretty chill day, walking around, eating and reading my book! It has been a long time since I walked along Blk 85 market. I think the last time was during my sec sch days, on my way back to my grandma house after sch. Since I had breakfast there with my grandma today, I showed der the old sch cake shop where Cham and I bought a huge cream cake (not those fanciful ones we get these days) and finished it all by ourselves under the void deck! Der and I couldn't resist the temptation to buy a slice each :) Strawberry vs blueberry...Only $1.10 each. Those miniture ones that are sold at toast box cost $1.20 and they are only 1/3 the size of this! What a rip off for something nostalgia... Later in the evening, we decided to chill at The Orange Timber @ Tiong Bahru The Orange Timber is a cafe cum art gallery. The plates are bowl used were also meant to be something nostalgia once again... hah However, I use those cutlery at home too. There are like 3 sections to this small cafe...
