Volunteer Work @ Rempang

I was quite excited when my aunt emailed me one day asking me to accompany her for some volunteer work at Rempang. I've always liked to do stuff like this but I'm a bit scared of dealing with the handicap, old and i think the list goes on. ok i'm not discriminating or acting princessy but it does requires quite a bit of courage and it takes time and effort to commit. Anyway, this volunteer work wasn't that hard... i thought initially...It was something organised by a church to provide education to village children. And as a first timer, i was suppose to invigilate their english exam.

The village sch...

So you think being an invigilator is an easy job? well in Singapore maybe... But in Rempang...check out the scene of the exam...

Everyone was practically trying to copy from each other, calling out to me to give them the ans., kids were running in and out of the class. And the best thing... they speak bahasa and I couldn't understand them practically the whole time! I had a hard time trying to get everyone to sit down!

And this was like their staple food...Fried Tapioca. It's just plain tapioca with a dash of salt. Not like those fanciful goreng pisang we have in Singapore. We called it the Indonesia frenchfries heh.

The Orange Timber

Today was a pretty chill day, walking around, eating and reading my book! It has been a long time since I walked along Blk 85 market. I think the last time was during my sec sch days, on my way back to my grandma house after sch. Since I had breakfast there with my grandma today, I showed der the old sch cake shop where Cham and I bought a huge cream cake (not those fanciful ones we get these days) and finished it all by ourselves under the void deck! Der and I couldn't resist the temptation to buy a slice each :) Strawberry vs blueberry...Only $1.10 each. Those miniture ones that are sold at toast box cost $1.20 and they are only 1/3 the size of this! What a rip off for something nostalgia... Later in the evening, we decided to chill at The Orange Timber @ Tiong Bahru The Orange Timber is a cafe cum art gallery. The plates are bowl used were also meant to be something nostalgia once again... hah However, I use those cutlery at home too. There are like 3 sections to this small cafe...

JetSaver Light Challenge - Penang Trip

A very big Thank You to Jetstar and JetSaver Light! We had an AWESOME trip. Not only was it a cultural and stomach full filling trip filled with nothing but one of the very best food :), we also experienced the affable nature of the people in Penang and most importantly, we made many friends to keep :) Below was the itinerary that got us selected. And we're proud to say that we completed everything mentioned and accomplished even more. Wednesday, 1st July  marks JetSaver Light inaugural flight to Penang and also our, team 4's (GO! Go! team 4!!), inaugural trip to Penang on Jetstar with a budget of SGD60. After the initial briefing and collecting of our SGD60 which we converted to  RM144 , we were all ready and excited to jet off. Checking out the duty free at terminal 1 before boarding . Upon our arrival at Penang, we were warmly welcomed by a group of local performers . A surprising start to the trip. A photo taken together with 2 of the performers outside Penang International...
