New York

7 days in New York... It does sound a little long. I guess we could have squeezed in another state but we were too lazy to do so. I enjoy taking it easy these days instead of having a super packed itinerary where we need to be rushing all the time. Having said so, New York is a place where there is always things to do. Even with 7 days, there were still places or things that we have yet to cover.

For lodging, we stayed in W New York which is very near the Grand Central Station. Even though we arrived late at night, our room was not ready when we arrived, we were given a complimentary drink at the bar to chill while waiting.
Since it was late, we just hopped over to Grand Central Station to grab some food for dinner. As usual the station is bustling with people.

Needless to say... we headed straight to Shake Shack. Super Shiok~
Being in New York meant seeing Starbucks everywhere and everyone seemed to be walking around with a cup of Starbucks. We were no exception. Me and my morning dose of coffee :)
Also, with Christmas around the corner, there were various Christmas edition coffee available. I had the pumpkin spice latte while Derrick had the chestnut praline.
We managed to do most of the touristy stuff while in New York. A lot was done on foot. I practically walked my soles off! All the walking made me ache at the end of each day but I felt like I needed the work out badly hah. We visited places like...
1. Empire State Building. The lobby was beautiful. But we chose to go up the Rockerfeller instead.

2. Rockerfeller. The view was amazing. I think everyone should go for this. It is definitely worth it. Also, you will be able to see the Empire State Building from the Rockerfeller view point.
There are 3 levels. I am standing on the 3rd level which is the highest level. There was definitely a crowd and taking pictures require some patience.
A view with Central Park behind us.
The Empire State behind us.
The ice skating rink at Rockerfeller. It turned out to be so tiny. I guess we were used to the huge ice skating rings in Moscow that we were disappointed when we saw this little rink packed with people. Fortunately we did not bring our ice skates all the way to NYC.
3. Times Square. I doubt there will be anyone who does not come here when they are in New York

4. Charging Bull at Wall Street. But mind you, there's a queue to take a photo with the frontal view of the bull! I remember this was not the case when I was there 10 years ago. There was practically no one around. We could take as many pics as we wanted.
5. Lego, various toy stores and the M&M store.

6. Chelsea Market for food. There were many small food stalls as well as a couple of restaurants there. The place was packed with hungry people.
We shared a lobster which was juicy and sweet but the price deterred us from getting a bigger one.

We also had pumpkin waffles and mac & cheese in one of the restaurant.

7. Walk the High Line. It is a 1.45 mile long linear park on an elevated section
There is a glass panel that allow us to view the street down below.
8. Walk around Brooklyn. That's the Brooklyn bridge behind us.
9. Catch a NBA game.

10. Visit the Metropolitan Museum. This place is huge. You can spend an entire day and still not able to cover everything. For us, half a day is always more than enough as I will not be able to absorb anything anymore.

There was also a beautiful Christmas tree decorated with angels inside the museum.
11. Take a stroll in Central Park.

12. Christmas Windows of the malls. During the Christmas season, all the windows were so beautifully decorated.

I am so in love with the Tiffany window display. Aren't they magical?

13. Have lots and lots of yummy and fattening food!

Having pancakes and pumpkin french toast at Good Enough to Eat

Burger & Devil's Egg at Spotted Pig.

We even had Jap food. I am having pan seared scallops with some sauce. It was ooohhh la la...
 Derrick having his Katsu Don.
After having roast duck noodles and wonton at Chinatown, we got ourselves a cream cake and an egg tart at a bakery in Chinatown. All the restaurant in Chinatown had long queues. We were there for dinner at 530pm and the queues were already forming.
Above is just a brief summary of the main things we have done. There are so much more. I can't wait to visit the other different states in the States with Derrick!
Ending this post with a pic taken on Christmas Day itself. Merry Christmas!
and looking forward to a crazier and more exciting 2015 ahead!

The Orange Timber

Today was a pretty chill day, walking around, eating and reading my book! It has been a long time since I walked along Blk 85 market. I think the last time was during my sec sch days, on my way back to my grandma house after sch. Since I had breakfast there with my grandma today, I showed der the old sch cake shop where Cham and I bought a huge cream cake (not those fanciful ones we get these days) and finished it all by ourselves under the void deck! Der and I couldn't resist the temptation to buy a slice each :) Strawberry vs blueberry...Only $1.10 each. Those miniture ones that are sold at toast box cost $1.20 and they are only 1/3 the size of this! What a rip off for something nostalgia... Later in the evening, we decided to chill at The Orange Timber @ Tiong Bahru The Orange Timber is a cafe cum art gallery. The plates are bowl used were also meant to be something nostalgia once again... hah However, I use those cutlery at home too. There are like 3 sections to this small cafe...

JetSaver Light Challenge - Penang Trip

A very big Thank You to Jetstar and JetSaver Light! We had an AWESOME trip. Not only was it a cultural and stomach full filling trip filled with nothing but one of the very best food :), we also experienced the affable nature of the people in Penang and most importantly, we made many friends to keep :) Below was the itinerary that got us selected. And we're proud to say that we completed everything mentioned and accomplished even more. Wednesday, 1st July  marks JetSaver Light inaugural flight to Penang and also our, team 4's (GO! Go! team 4!!), inaugural trip to Penang on Jetstar with a budget of SGD60. After the initial briefing and collecting of our SGD60 which we converted to  RM144 , we were all ready and excited to jet off. Checking out the duty free at terminal 1 before boarding . Upon our arrival at Penang, we were warmly welcomed by a group of local performers . A surprising start to the trip. A photo taken together with 2 of the performers outside Penang International...
